Ro Di Brezzo, fondly referred to as Dr. D, has left an indelible mark on the lives of her students and colleagues throughout her distinguished career as an esteemed educator. In recognition of her profound influence, former students and colleagues have come together to establish the Di Brezzo Endowed Scholarship in Exercise Science. This enduring tribute serves as both a celebration of Di Brezzo’s legacy and an opportunity to empower future generations of students in the Exercise Science Program to achieve their academic goals.

A Lasting Legacy

The Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, Kate Mamiseishvili, emphasized the significance of the Di Brezzo Endowed Scholarship in Exercise Science, stating that it offers individuals a chance to honor the profound impact of an exceptional educator. This scholarship aims to support undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours and are pursuing a degree in the Exercise Science Program at the University of Arkansas.

Colleagues and former students describe Di Brezzo as an incredible leader, teacher, influencer, and friend. Throughout her 37-year career at the University of Arkansas, she has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to inspire and push her students to reach their full potential. Michelle Gray, Chair of the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation, credits her own achievements to the mentorship provided by Dr. D, highlighting Di Brezzo’s unique talent for recognizing and nurturing her students’ potential, even when they couldn’t see it in themselves.

A Journey of Excellence

Ro Di Brezzo joined the University of Arkansas in 1983 as an Assistant Professor of Physical Education. Over the years, she held various positions of academic leadership within the university, including program chair and interim department head for the Kinesiology Department, director of the Human Performance Laboratory, and co-director of the Office for Studies on Aging. In 1992, she co-founded the Teaching and Faculty Support Center, further cementing her commitment to enhancing the educational experience for both students and faculty. Di Brezzo’s dedication to academic excellence was recognized when she served as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs from 2012 to 2013, and later as the university’s first Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Enhancement from 2013 to 2017. In 2017, she became the first Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. In October 2019, Di Brezzo returned to the faculty as a University Professor of Exercise Science.
